On June 12 & 13th of 2025 This Is Art hosted the first U.S. exhibition of acclaimed American artist Matthew Lum, whose powerful work debuted in Paris in spring. Live painting, artist talks, and emotional portraiture blended classical technique with modern truth.

American-born, Paris-based, and completely self-taught, Matthew A. H. Lum paints without sketches or second passes — building each work in a single, emotional push. His process is instinctive, focused, and deeply human.

In addition to painting, Lum is also a violinist and poet. These creative threads run through everything he does — shaping a style that’s as layered and expressive as it is technical.
